HSG 2008 Voting Results (December 2008)
The HSG Chair (Ira Shoulson) and Co-Chair (Steven Hersch) were running for re-election, unopposed. The HSG Executive Committee had one open Investigator position and one open Coordinator position. There were three nominees for the investigator position (Merit Cudkowicz, Blair Leavitt and Kathleen Shannon), and two nominees for the coordinator position (Christine O’Neill and Guerry Peavy).
We are pleased to announce the following election results:

TETRA-HD - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today (August 15, 2008) approved tetrabenazine, the first drug approved for use in the United States to treat Huntington’s disease, a fatal, inherited neurodegenerative disorder for which there is no cure. The action comes about eight months after an advisory panel unanimously voted to advise FDA to make the medication available to treat the disease (read more...). Prestwick, the TETRA-HD study sponsor, has posted information on their web site; HDSA has posted an article by Marsha Miller, PhD on their web site.
