Minocycline Safety and Tolerability in Huntington's Disease (MINO):

Results of an 8-Week Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled, Multi-Center Study by the Huntington Study Group

Under the direction of Merit Cudkowicz, MD, MSc, Principal Investigator of the minocycline (MINO) trial, the HSG conducted an 8-week study of minocycline in Huntington’s disease (HD). The study was designed to assess whether the drug was safe and tolerable in two dosages compared to placebo over a relatively short period of time. The study was conducted by the Huntington Study Group (HSG), a consortium of physicians, psychologists, and other health professionals throughout the US and Canada. There were sixty participants with Huntington’s disease enrolled at 8 participating HSG sites in North America. Over eight weeks of study, minocycline at 100 mg and 200 mg per day was well tolerated and safe in HD patients. The HSG is planning a longer duration study of minocycline to begin to look at efficacy and long term safety.
